ROSS Juniors FC are helping out by providing kit to players in rural Africa.

The club have some great sponsors who help ensure Ross players have the latest Nike football kits.

Kit is recycled within the club for teams who do not have a sponsor or need extra kit for new players, and then any left over is shipped abroad to countries who are in need of strips to play in.

This year, Juniors have already had kit taken to Uganda and last month more was delivered to youngsters in Tanzania.

This was taken by Carole Tate from Ross-on-Wye parkrun and Erick Nyamohanga, who is a resident of Tanzania.

Erick often visits Ross-on-Wye and participates in parkrun, and at the same time takes time out to train the club’s Pan Disability group.

The latest batch of kit was taken to a remote village called Ssupuk where the eager young Maasai children had never had a football kit before.

Everyone at the village was thrilled to wear the famous red and white shirts.

And while the goals are made of bamboo and stones were used to mark the pitch on which there wasn't a blade of grass, the youngsters love playing football in their new strips.

A Juniors spokesperson said: "Everyone at the village was very grateful to Ross Juniors for their generosity in supplying the kit.

"This again shows what a fantastic community club we have in not only helping those locally but also abroad."

Meanwhile, back home on the pitch, Ross Juniors Ladies recently travelled to Hereford Lads Club and won 12-0 in terrible conditions, although the 3G pitch provided perfect conditions underfoot.

Ross took an early lead after five minutes and scored five more goals before the break and another six in the second period, Danie Page Ward starring with four and Anna Craig and Hannah Jenkins both firing hat-tricks.

Jessica Brain was also on target with two as the thumping win left the team sponsored by Kings Accountancy Ltd, Ross Health and Fitness and Scaffolding 2000 Ltd second in the Herefordshire Women's League.
