Monmouth Town FC 4 Cefn Fforest 0

MONMOUTH Town dominated Cefn Fforest in a home win on Saturday, extending their impressive unbeaten run to seven games, reports JAMES TOWNLEY.

The Village were unable to get past goalkeeper Dan Keane, who kept a clean sheet for the Kingfishers as they fired four unanswered goals to take the win.

Coming off the back of two draws, Town were hopeful of victory and a brace from top scorer Dan Macdonald helped secure this.

Monmouth started quickly, scoring in the fourth minute as Jacob Perrella switched play from one side of the box to the other to find James Greaney who slotted home.

The Kingfishers created more chances following their opener, piling on the pressure as the boys in yellow tried to extend their advantage.

Mathew Jones played a long ball to Macdonald’s feet in front of goal but his volley was hit straight at Asa Kirkwood in goal.

Then another Jones long ball was just claimed by Kirkwood off the feet of Lamin Ndure.

But the hosts extended their advantage on 29 minutes when Greaney returned the favour, delivering a cross from the left to Perrella, who slotted past the keeper for 2-0.

The Kingfishers continued attacking, creating more chances, most notably for Macdonald.

And Craig Lewis soon provided a well delivered through ball to the No 10, who was stopped in his path by a sliding tackle.

But former England Schools cap Macdonald did get his opening goal with seven minutes of the half remaining, as Ndure showed his skill on the left to ping a ball into the box, which the striker placed past the keeper into the bottom corner of the goal.

The first half ended with Town in control with a 3-0 lead.

But the second half started slowly with neither side able to threaten, despite Monmouth spending the majority of time in the visitors’ half.

The hosts' first chance after the restart came from Craig Lewis, who headed just over the bar from a Perrella delivery.

Perrella then provided a second chance, this time for Macdonald, threading a ball through the Cefn defence to find his target man, who shot inches wide.

Fforest’s best chance came from a free-kick near the edge of the box, but it was fired straight at Keane.

And with just under 20 minutes left, Macdonald scored his second after Perrella found him on the edge of the box, the No 10 cutting inside to glide the ball nicely past the keeper for 4-0.

The full-time whistle blew with no further score, extending Monmouth's unbeaten run to a magnificent seven, and leaving them ninth with games in hand on all but one of those above.

The Kingfishers travel on Saturday (December 7) to face New Inn, before hosting them the following weekend.

The 2nds were victorious in their East Gwent One league game against Undy 3rds, Jake Lewis scoring two and Oliver Moss and Harry Williams one apiece in a 4-2 win, and host Caldicot Town 3rds this weekend.

Finally, the Youth XI faced Thornwell R&W U18s in the league, battering them 11-1 thanks to braces from Lamin Ndure, Freddie Kemsley and Henry Morgan, and strikes from Rudy Davies, William Kelsall, Charles Phillips, Oliver Kennedy and Huw Morgan.

They host Abergavenny Town Youth on Sunday (December 8).
