IN the latest round of matches in the Monmouthshire Short Mat Bowls League, Caerwent have continued their push towards the top of the table with a dramatic victory over leaders and champions Dingestow, reports HAYDN HOLDER.
Although both sides managed to win one triple and one pairs match, Caerwent took the extra two points with a shot count of 62 against Dingestow’s 46.

The 6-4 points split has cut Dingestow’s lead at the top to just eight points (70 to 62) with two matches of the campaign remaining.
The run-in to the title could well come down to home advantage, with both sides facing the same opposition in their final two games – Devauden and Little Mill.
Caerwent have the advantage of two home matches while Dingestow have to make two away journeys, so it’s all to play for.
Devauden and Usk remain in third and fourth places respectively, both on 50 points apiece, with the former in the higher position due to a better shot difference.
Little Mill may yet join that little battle for third place as they currently have 43 points and a game in hand against bottom placed side Mathern.
