DEFENDING champions Dingestow Short Mat Bowls Club have a narrow lead at the halfway stage of the Monmouthshire Short Mat Bowls 2024-25 season, reports HAYDN HOLDER.
Contenders Caerwent led by one point after four matches, but suffered away defeats at Devauden and Usk, allowing Dingestow to move into top spot, with Usk and Devauden taking second and third spots respectively.
With the six reverse fixtures to be played by the end of March, it could all change as there are 10 points available for each match.
Each match consists of two triples games, followed by two pairs games, with two points for a win in each, plus two points for the team with the overall winning score.
All clubs welcome new players (particularly Caldicot U3A who were unable to enter a team this season due to lack of numbers).
Clubs can provide all the equipment needed to get started so all players need is a pair of clean, flat-soled shoes (bowls shoes are ideal, but trainers with no heel will be fine).
Details of all clubs can be found at the Monmouthshire Short Mat Bowls Association website: https://sites.google.com/view/monshortmatbowlsassociationon
