A MATTY Board spotkick shootout penalty sent Chepstow Town into ecstasy and the semi-finals of the Ardal South Cup at Taffs Well's Rhiw'r Ddar Stadium on Saturday.

Victory over AFC Llwydcoed from Aberdare after a 1-1 draw in normal time saw the high-flying Ardal South East Jockeys stretch their unbeaten run to 12 games.

But it was the Ardal South West outfit who went in front at the neutral ground after nine minutes, a deflected free-kick from Dewi Abbruzzese bamboozling the Chepstow keeper.

It was 1-0 at the break, but just two minutes into the second period Chepstow were level, Sonny Lewis put in by Oliver Melling to fire home for 1-1.

That's how it stayed to full-time, heralding the drama of a penalty shootout to make the last four.

Chepstow’s Nathan Rose converted, followed by Ash Palmer, Matthew Swann and Ryan Wheeler, matched by Llwydcoed's first three before a miss from their fourth player.

Board then calmly stepped up to fire home for a 5-3 shootout win to the Jockeys, sparking wild celebrations.

Elsewhere, 13 held no fears for unbeaten Glascoed as the Gwent Central 2 leaders made it that many wins on the trot with a 2-1 triumph at Penygarn & Trevethin, Kevin Andrews with the 78th-minute winner after a 10th-minute Andrew Davey opener.

And Jamie Champion lived up to his name with a last-gasp penalty for Usk 2nds to rescue a point in a 4-4 draw at home to Mardy 2nds after a Matthew Galletley hat-trick.

A Ieaun Frost goal also secured a point for Redbrook Rovers at home to Yorkley in North Gloucestershire League One, leaving them third.

But the 2nds were sunk by a magnificent seven at NG2 high-flyers Ruardean United, Cai Hawkins and Jake Teague scoring the Wyesiders’ goals in a 7-2 reverse.

Chepstow’s 1st XI aren’t in action this weekend, but Saturday's fixtures (February 8) include – Chepstow 2nds v Abercarn 2nds, Pontnewynydd v Usk, Usk 2nds v Forgeside 2nds, Redbrook v Redmarley & Tibberton.
