BULWARK Community Centre said farewell to its long-standing administrator, Lynne Atkins, after she retired following thirty years of service.

Stalwart Lynne, who started as a volunteer at the Laburnam Way, Bulwark, community centre, established by her father, Graham Morgan, and a band of dedicated ‘visionaries’, was congratulated on her retirement at the regular light lunch.

Lynne said: “I started as a volunteer presenting my ideas for interior design, setting up a mother and toddler group with a raffle ticket book and a bottle of wine little knowing that raising my hand would lead to being ‘voted in’ and embarking on this varied career!”

Reflecting on her three decades Lynne, who was presented with a top of the range smart watch as part of her leaving present, said: “I’m reminded that my father Graham, and those with vision, would be so proud of what has been achieved.

“Over the years I have witnessed the power of community. Each day brought new challenges and rewards and I am thankful for every moment.

“Our community centre has accomplished so much, hosting summer and Christmas events, establishing the light lunch serving the community and working in partnership with Chepstow Mencap.

“I thank the centre trustees and Chepstow Town councillors for their support, the volunteers for their dedication and the community members for their trust. Together we’ve built a place of excellence for the community to use and cherish.”

And with a customary twinkle in her eye Lynne said: “This will be a new chapter for me, retiring into the unknown but I can assure you I won’t be sitting watching daytime TV all day long!”

Bulwark Community Centre trustee and treasurer Terry, handing Lynne a large retirement card signed by a host of well-wishers and a collection of gifts, said: “Lynne has provided unstinting service to this centre for three decades.

“Starting as a volunteer as the centre took shape and then as our administrator. None of us here can remember a time without Lyn

Terry, who has been a volunteer at the centre for thirty years, said: “We have seen the centre grow from its humble beginnings to the vibrant accessible resource that it is today serving the community of Bulwark. This would not have happened without Lynne’s hard work and dedication.”

Acknowledging Lynne’s ‘tremendous contribution’ Terry, thanking her for her tireless service, wished her ‘a well-deserved retirement and the opportunity to enjoy the many friendships and interests that you have.”

Nicky Neil, from Chepstow, has been appointed as centre organiser and taken up the new role at Bulwark Community Centre.
