OWNERS of a food van that went up in flames are determined to bounce back.
Kyle and Kelly Gettings of Only Food and Sauces were shocked when a blaze gutted their ‘burger van’ in Chepstow’s Bulwark Industrial Estate overnight on Tuesday, January 7.
The duo don’t know what caused it, and it could cost £40,000 to replace.
But Kyle, who was alerted by a neighbour abound 9.40pm, pledged “We will open back up by hook or by crook. We’ll raise the money, we’ll do whatever it take.
“I don’t want this to be a sob story. This is a rebuild... Nothing we can do to control what’s happened, but we can control the outcome.
“We’re going to come back, we’re going to rebuild and we’re going to be better than ever.”
Kyle and Kelly, who have a second van in Coleford’s New Dunn park, saw trade grow when they secured the Bulwark location around a year ago.
Their impressive use of TikTok garnered half a million views in the first month of use, attracting customers from as far as London and Birmingham to try their burgers.
But the blaze has rocked their world, Kyle saying: “We come from a poor background. No money, used to be on benefits. Started with nothing.
“We’ve had everything we’ve built through sheer hard work and determination. We got knocked down a million times, and we got back up a million times.
“The fire’s a big blow. However, we do what we do best – we get up, we dust ourselves off and we fight back.”
The response is testament to their own community ethos, contributing 30 meals and delivering them to the homeless every Sunday,
A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish whether the cause of the fire was deliberate.”
