Theatre Manager and mother of three, Ms Fiona Wilton, has successfully completed a remarkable 100-mile walking challenge in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity challenge, taking place during August, saw Fiona traverse various hills across the region from Pen Y Fan, to The Skirrid, and The Kymin. Fiona also travelled further afield to The Long Mynd in Shropshire and White Horse Hill in Oxfordshire. She has already raised almost £800 with further donations and sponsorship welcome.

Fiona who co-manages The Blake Theatre in Monmouth was inspired to take up the challenge to honour a close relative recently diagnosed with cancer.

Fiona said: “The experience has been transformative, it’s channelled my worry into something that has made a real difference. I’ve been sharing my adventures, the stunning views and my reflections on Facebook and the support I’ve received has been overwhelming.

“People of Monmouth are generous – one local lady stopped me whilst I was out walking to give me money towards my fundraising goal! I added hills to my challenge as a metaphor to represent the uphill struggles that cancer can present.

“I took up walking about 18 months ago along a regular route in Monmouth and have been lucky enough to get to know local people on my route who wave to me, stop for a chat and support my efforts – it’s been a fantastic way of building community and appreciating the beautiful surroundings of our lovely town. Thank you to everyone who has supported me!”
