MONMOUTH Tri Club members are busy making the most of the long summer days with a packed racing season, reports KELLY SALTER.

A trio of members triumphed at Europe’s biggest multi-sport festival, the long course weekend in Tenby.

Jak Smith scooped first place in the half distance in 5 hours 13mins 34 secs, while Claire Jackson was 14th female home in the full distance in 12.31.31, and Phil Bryant enjoyed his first long course with the full swim, bike and 10k run.

Another tri team also took on the evening sprint triathlon at the SWMA Cromhall Tri series near Wotton-under-Edge, with Renske Bouwens finishing in 1.21.24 and first in her age category, closely followed by Martin Adams with1.23.28 and 15th in age category.

Club chairwoman Sharon Neville and Kelly Major also came fourth and third in their respective age categories at just over 1.30.

There was a deluge at the Cotswold Big Swim Festival in Cirencester, which meant swimmers Sharon Neville and Claire Jackson got a soaking in and out of the lake.

However, the duo smashed their challenge, with Sharon finishing seventh in her age category in the 5km swim and Claire fifth in her’s with 1.19 in the 3.8km swim.

James Peters also upheld his stellar running record with an impressive 14th place and fourth in age category in the Offa’s Dyke, a 15-mile trail race between Hay-on-Wye and Kington.
