A PENALTY two minutes into stoppage time secured a 2-1 last-gasp comeback win for Chepstow Town at home to Ardal South East top-half rivals Abertillery Bluebirds on Saturday.

An Ellis Quarterly own goal had given the visitors the lead on 24 minutes, but the Jockeys were level within nine minutes after Josh Parsons set Wakley up for his first, with the striker then the hero at the death to leave the Jockeys fourth.

An Owen Badham goal a minute into the second half secured mid-table Thornwell R&W a 1-0 win over Gwent Premier 2 basement boys Riverside Rovers.

But second-to-bottom Usk missed out 2-0 at home to high-flying Pontnewydd United, the goals coming either side of half-time before the visitors' boss ended up in the book as the hosts pushed forward.

Elsewhere, Rockfield Rovers suffered a successive 9-1 loss after their Benevolent Cup derby blitzing at the hands of Monmouth Town 2nds, this time overwhelmed at Underwood in East Gwent 2.

Rovers were caught cold as they trailed 3-0 in eight minutes, before an own goal pulled one back on 17 minutes.

It was 3-1 at half-time, but the floodgates opened after the hosts made it 4-1 eight minutes into the second period, with a fifth three minutes later, followed by further strikes on 62mins, 64mins, 70mins and 75mins.

But Redbrook Rovers were celebrating a hard-fought 1-0 North Gloucestershire One win at top-two hosts Yorkley, a Larsson Brown goal lifting them to seventh.

The 2nds narrowly missed out though 2-1 away to Broadwell A, leaving them ninth in NG2.

Chepstow Town visit Pontyclun in the Ardal South Cup this Saturday (October 26) while Usk host Bedwas in the Gwent Amateur Cup.

Glascoed also visit Race in the Gwent Central Open Cup, and Redbrook face Moreton Rangers away in the Gloucestershire Intermediate Cup.
