USK FC fought hard at home to high-flying Brynmawr United on Saturday, but the Gwent Premier 2 basement side had to give second best losing 2-0.

Harvey Miles put the Mawr 1-0 up six minutes before the break and sub Tyrone Gravell doubled the lead mid-way through the second half.

There was late drama as the visitors lost their cool though, Josh Evans red-carded for handball and kicking the ball away as four others also found themselves booked in a mad three-minute spell.

Elsewhere, goals from Herbie Perry, Owen Badham, Owain Westerman and Ryan May fired Chepstow table-mates Thornwell R&W to a 4-1 home win over Crickhowell to go sixth.

Usk 2nds lost by the same score at Panteg 2nds in Gwent Central 2 however, Matthew Cartwright with a late consolation.

And unbeaten table-toppers Glascoed also lost their record, losing 3-2 to Prescoed despite leading 2-0 after 27 minutes, their goals from Aaron Ewers and an own goal.

It was knockout day in the East Gwent League, where Chepstow Town 3rds lost to Caldicot Castle in the Harry Gill Cup, Tom Collins levelling on 65 minutes before the visitors scored two more to win 3-1, while neighbours Thornwell 2nds led 1-0 through a Logan Jones 13th-minute strike at EG1 leaders Sudbrook CC, but also crashed out 5-1.

Monmouth's Rockfield Rovers were thumped 9-0 at home by Underwood in the Fishwick Cup, but Tintern Abbey won 5-1 at Portskewett & Sudbrook, Ryan Meredith with a hat-trick, backed by Taka Yamagata and Oly Adshead goals.

Redbrook Rovers moved up to sixth in North Gloucestershire One with a 3-0 win at Sling courtesy of a Ieuan Frost brace and one for Dan Bodenham.

And a Ryan Jeffs hat-trick and a Griffin Rowe strike also secured a 4-2 home win for the 2nds over Rank Outsiders.
