HIGH-flying Chepstow Town ran out 2-0 winners at Newport Corinthians to cut the gap on Ardal South East leaders Treowen Stars.

The Jockeys' neighbours Caldicot Town did them a favour, beating Stars 3-2 at home, leaving Chepstow six points behind in second with a game in hand.

Iestyn Davies put Town in front after 17 minutes before Josh Parsons doubled the lead seven minutes into the second period, extending their unbeaten run to 14 games.

The 2nds narrowly lost 3-2 at home to Caldicot Reserves, Jack Williams (34) and Will Fox-Pritchard (80) their scorers, leaving them 10th in the South East Reserves League.

But the 3rds beat the Swans 3rds 6-4 at home in East Gwent One, Tom Collins with a brace and Lucas Owen, Matthew Owen and Dan Gray also on target, with two goals in the last five minutes the difference.

Unbeaten Gwent Central 2 table toppers Glascoed had to fight to win through to the GC Benevolent Cup final, trailing 2-1 at home to Pontnewynydd 2nds with 23 minutes to play, Andy Davey having put them 1-0 up after just two minutes.

But goals from Dawson Stubbs (74), Shaun Ruysch (83) and Brent Chatham (90) saw them finally go through 4-3 to meet second-placed Clydach Wasps in the final.

Division rivals Usk 2nds lost 4-2 away to Mardy 2nds, Matt Hancock and Jake Lewis with the consolations.

But Chepstow's Thornwell 2nds beat Undy 3rds 3-1 at home in EG1 thanks to two goals from Owain Westerman and one from Dan Cucos.

Monmouth's Rockfield Rovers edged Underwood 3-2 at home to stay second in EG2, Tommy Tynan with a brace and one from Ben Wiggins.

And Cam Davies fired a hat-trick, backed by a Joe Stephens brace and one from Jake Teague as Redbrook Rovers beat visitors Woolaston in North Gloucestershire One.

But their 2nds went out of the FJ Pope Cup 2-1 away to Whitecroft 2nds, Larsson Brown with the consolation.

Chepstow Town travel to face Llanelli outfit Evans and Williams this Saturday (March 15) in the Ardal South Cup semi-final.
