CHEPSTOW Town battled to a 0-0 stalemate in Saturday's top-of-the table clash at Treowen Stars.

Victory in glorious Spring sunshine would have given the Jockeys an outside chance of catching the Ardal South East leaders in their last six games.

But Stars now look to have the title in their grasp with a 12-point lead over second-placed Chepstow and four games of their own left.

Chepstow, unbeaten away since last October, will want to keep winning though to hold off third-placed local rivals Caldicot two points behind, and with the Ardal South Cup final to look forward to against Cardiff Corinthians at Taffs Well FC on Friday, May 16.

The 2nds also fought out a 2-2 draw at home to Risca, Finley Vigus and Alfie Owen with the goals either side of half-time.

Usk Town had already finished their Gwent Premier 2 campaign and had to wait to see Riverside Rovers' Saturday result at Pontnewydd to see whether they avoided the bottom two.

Thankfully, the basement side lost 3-2, leaving Usk third from bottom a place above Trinant on goal difference.

Tintern Abbey cruelly lost 1-0 to a last-minute goal in the Fishwick Cup final after after holding East Gwent 2 champions Severn Tunnel for 90 minutes at Sudbrook CCFC.

There was also North Gloucestershire George Sandoe League Cup semi-final disappointment for Redbrook Rovers who lost 3-2 away to Ellwood 2nds, Ieuan Frost with a first-half brace for the Wyesiders.

And the 2nds went down 7-4 at home to Lydney B in NG2, Paul Brooks with a brace, and one each for Ryan Jeffs and Alex Riddell.

Chepstow Town 3rds also missed out 3-1 at home to Caldicot 3rds in East Gwent 1.

Fixtures this Saturday (April 12) include – Chepstow Town v Brecon Corries, Treowen Stars 2nds v Chepstow Town 2nds, Caldicot Castle 2nds v Rockfield Rovers, Underwood v Tintern Abbey, Redbrook Rovers 2nds v Ruardean United.
