Lucas Cwmbran 0 Monmouth Town 6

THE Kingfishers defeated hosts Lucas Cwmbran in commanding style on Wednesday night, firing six goals without reply, reports JAMES TOWNLEY.

After suffering defeat on the weekend in the cup against Pill, Town bounced back in the perfect way.

It was a quick start for the visitors, as after only two minutes Dan MacDonald put the ball in the back of the net for the opener after a threaded pass from Jacob Perrella.

Just two minutes later it was 2-0, and again it was MacDonald the marksman, this time with a shot from outside the box.

Monmouth kept the momentum going, and the No 10 just missed out on getting his hat-trick, shooting just over the bar from close range.

Ashley Ford then made a potentially costly error on the edge of his own box, giving the ball away to the hosts, but the shot didn’t test Ethan Ross in goal.

Town were putting in a dominant display, and it didn’t take long for them to assert themselves again, creating chance after chance.

Ebrima Ndure then scored the visitor’s third just before the half-time whistle after being assisted by Jacob Perrella.

Monmouth were totally dominant, and in the 67th minute got their fourth goal after MacDonald set Ndure up, whose shot was partly saved by Luke Casagrande only for Perrella to tap home the loose ball.

And it took just three minutes for Perrella to get his brace after some great skill from Sam Oxley put him through for Town’s fifth.

Max Jepson, who joined the Kingfishers just last month, then thought he had scored his first goal for the club, but it was ruled offside.

MacDonald then found himself in a great position to get his ha-trick, but a brilliant save from Casagrande denied him, only for Perrella again to pick up the afters and tap in for his own hat-trick and 6-0.

The full-time whistle went as the sun had now set, and it was Monmouth who were taking an important three points that lifts them to third 16 points behind Lliswerry in second, with six games in hand.

On Thursday night, the Youth were also victorious at home against New Inn U18s, winning 2-1 with goals from Matthew Hopkins and Todd Rollinson.

Monmouth face New Inn in the league tomorrow (Saturday, April 5) away as they look to keep their positive momentum going.

The reserves also travel away tomorrow to face Thornwell Red & White 2nds, and the Youth play away on Sunday against top of the league Panteg Youth.
