During the last 12 months Usk Farmers’ Club have been raising funds for their Chairman’s chosen charity of the year – Parkinson’s UK Cymru – and have raise an amazing £5,500. The money was raised from raffles and auctions at social events throughout the year, as well as donations made when visitors were purchasing their admission tickets for the show. All entry fees from the Companion Dog Show on show day are also donated to the chairman’s charity, which has led to this amazing amount of money.
At the recent AGM of Usk Farmers’ Club, members were joined by Keri McKie, Wales Community Fundraiser & Jean Mullis, Co-Ordinator of the Monmouth Support Group.
Mark Williams, Chairman of Usk Farmers’ Club, commented that the money would be split 50/50 between both the local support group as well as nationally to support as many people as we possible can.
The Monmouth Support Group runs two groups, both meeting once a month supporting both those living with the disease and their carers. The groups run social events, therapy sessions and support sessions to assist with how best to support loved ones. And we are thrilled that this donation will allow the group to run this year without having to do any additional fundraising.
Keri McKie, Wales Community Fundraiser for Parkinson’s UK Cymru, said: “We are so grateful to all involved at the Usk Show for choosing to fundraise for Parkinson’s UK Cymru and the Monmouth support group. The work that goes into ensuring the success of the show is no small task. We are thrilled to have been chosen as the charities of choice for the 2025 show.
“With more than 40 potential symptoms, Parkinson’s can devastate lives. We’ve made huge breakthroughs in the last 50 years, but there is still no cure and current treatments are not good enough.
“We hope the success of the Usk Show will inspire others to support Parkinson’s UK Cymru. There are lots of ways for you to get involved and support us - from volunteering at an event, to campaigning for better services. Without the generosity of people like you, our work would not be possible."
Usk Show is now the largest one day Agricultural Show in Wales and is proud to be able to support many different charities throughout the year. They support both national and local charities, many of whom reciprocate the support by helping steward on show day if they are able to, for which they are very grateful. The show this year will be held on Saturday 13th September 2025 and tickets are available now on their website – www.uskshow.co.uk
