A Haberdashers' schoolgirl has hit television headlines with her revolutionary harness to help children learn to ride a bike. Innovative Sky Ballantyne, 11, made her small screen debut on 5 News last week when thousands of viewers across the UK learnt about her simple yet effective design. The Crikey Bikey harness, which has now been patented, has a handle which sits at the back of the child's neck so parents can teach them to ride a bike safely, without constantly bending down to hold them in place. Sky has also been interviewed on camera by ITV Wales reporter Alexandra Lodge. The local news feature, filmed at the school, was broadcast on ITV Wales at 6pm last night on Monday 14th July. Sky, from Ross-on-Wye, said: "I really enjoyed meeting Alex because she was really fun and upbeat. "I liked being filmed because I loved seeing the equipment. "I especially liked it because it wasn't live so if it went wrong you could always do it again." Sky also entrusted Alexandra with details about top secret Crikey Bikey inventions which are still in development. "It was such a pleasure to meet Sky," Alexandra said. "Her invention is simple yet revolutionary. I'm sure Crikey Bikey will be flying off the shelves when parents find out about it. "I also have no doubt that Sky will become a very successful businesswoman and she's clearly got plenty more innovative ideas up her sleeve. I wish her lots of luck." Ambitious Sky, whose 13-year-old sister Kia has been appointed as financial director of Crikey Bikey, and is hoping her harness will become a must-have for all cycling beginners.
