Fundraising team Manes and Tails work to support charities feeding and protecting animals across Monmouthshire and South Wales. The team are busy fundraising all year-round with events and tack sales to donate funds raised to a mixture of worthy charities.

Welsh winters are a tough time for animals in need, with the supply of hundreds of bales of hay vital to the survival of mountain and abandoned horses and ponies, shelter needed for struggling and unwell animals, vet supplies and treatment in demand, and much more.

To find out more about Manes and Tails, find the team on Facebook where you can also browse a range of tack and rugs for sale in support of the team’s work.

Thursday's event will be charged at £15pp with refreshments available.

The phoenix from the ashes of the SWHP, Manes and Tails have previously fundraised for the HungryHerds charity.

Following the death of the founder of the Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies (SWHP) - which merged with Redwings - the fundraising team along with SWHP supporter Sue Hughes, decided they wanted to carry on Jenny’s tradition and fundraise for animal welfare.

They braved the heat of the Usk Show two years ago to sell the donated horse tack from their Newport branch on Risca Road and raised £1,027 for the winter feeding programme of HungryHerds.

HungryHerds are a non-profit feeding group, whose aim is to give good quality haylage in the winter months to the wild and abandoned horses and ponies on Gelligaer Common, a place Jenny MacGregor and SWHP knew so very well.
