Monmouth Vision Impaired Group was delighted to welcome Monmouth Mayor Cllr David Evans to its March meeting. Chairperson Angela Hoyle wanted the A40 pedestrian subway murals to be brought to life for those with sight impairment. She came up with the idea of photos of the murals being projected onto a large screen in a dimmed environment coupled with an audio description for those group members with lesser sight.
Wyesham Christian Fellowship provided the environment and Cllr Evans provided the audio descriptions following an introduction of how the murals came about. It was impressive to know how young people had played a part in the subject matter and designs.
This led to members airing their personal recollections of the Wye and made for interesting discussions. Afterwards tea and cake was served in a relaxed atmosphere where members were enlightened as to the history of the Mayor’s chain of office and where they had the opportunity to discuss their issues in navigating Monmouth as a sight impaired person.
All agreed the afternoon was most enjoyable, enlightening and a great success thanks to the Mayor and the cooperation of Pastor Ian Roberts.
