IN a display of dedication to her community, Councillor Jane Lucas decided to personally tackle the persistent issue of overgrown weeds along Monnow Street.

Frustrated by the lack of action from MCC maintenance services, Councillor Lucas took to the streets on the weekend with her own gardening tools to clear the unsightly weeds.

Councillor Lucas stated, "I have received numerous complaints from constituents about the state of our streets. While I have been pushing for more timely interventions from our MCC maintenance teams as highlighted in The Beacon a few weeks ago, the problem has persisted for too long. Today, I decided to lead by example and show that a little effort can make a big difference."

The initiative has sparked a wave of community spirit, with several residents volunteering to join future clean-up efforts. Councillor Lucas hopes this will encourage more civic engagement and foster a sense of pride and ownership among the community members.

"We all have a role to play in maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of Monmouth I hope my actions will inspire others to take initiative and work together for the betterment of our community," Councillor Lucas added.

And is now planning to set up a series of community clean-up events and is calling on volunteers to participate. For more information on how to get involved, residents can contact [email protected]
