SOME of the youngest members of Wye Gymnastics Club based in Caldicot travelled to Pencoed last weekend to take part in the TumbleTastic event for five to 10 year olds.

13 members of the club competed, some for the very first time, and every gymnast came home with a medal!

The six year old team of Brooke Stockford-Hart, Eira Jones, Louis Child and Ruby Prattlett took the gold team medal with Louis earning second place and a silver medal in the overall category. The other girls finished in the top 10.

Next were the seven year old team of Caisie Goodman, Dewi Johns, Dylan Smallcombe and Kelsey Howells. Again the young gymnasts took the top position coming first in the team event with Dewi and Dylan coming second and third overall and Kelsey taking the championship title.

Eight year old Carys Dolbel was the only member of the club competing in the national section. The young Durand pupil performed at the highest level for her age group and after holding her composure well she was rewarded with the gold medal position.

The last to compete were the nine and 10 year-old elite competitors. The club’s team of Casey Willis, Maddie Jones, Niamh Shapland and Violet Stones were competing at this level for the first time. They saw some mistakes during the competition but were strong enough to hold on to second place in the team event and Violet Stones took the bronze individual medal.

Coaches Carly Hawke and Leanne Evans were ecstatic with the results and commented: “To come to an event with 13 gymnasts and take home 18 medals is a fantastic achievement! To see our smallest gymnasts compete in the way they did today has made us both extremely proud"
