WYE rowers shone on dry land at the West Wales Indoor Rowing Champion ships in Lampeter.

Monmouth Rowing Club's Fliss Howe, Louise Tanner and Sue Bezani stormed to medals over both 2,000m race and the 100m sprint.

The women’s over-50s 2,000m race was a Monmouth-dominated event, with Louise powering her way to gold in 8mins 13secs, followed by Sue in 8.59, who finished 14 seconds ahead of the bronze medallist.

Fliss, a recent convert to rowing after graduating through the club's learn to row course, then put in a gutsy performance to claim bronze in a fiercely contested over-30s race, finishing in 7.37.6 close behind the winner (7.30.8) and silver medallist (7.31.1).

And Monmouth’s speedsters didn’t stop there, as both Fliss and Louise went on to win gold in the 100m sprint race for their respective age groups.

Much further west in the USA, Old Monmothian 2022 world U23 gold medallist Robbie Prosser stroked his California Berkeley men's 8 to regulation wins over Oregon, Drexel and Santa Clara at the opening of their race season.

Prosser helped the Bears take bronze at last year's IRA college championship 8s, one of the top races in the US rowing calendar, and will next be in action at the San Diego Classic Regatta at the end of March.

Closer to home, Wye crews will be heading to London later this month for the UK's championship head races, including the Vesta Masters 8s and Schools' Head on the Boat Race stretch of the Thames, and the Junior Sculling Head at the London 2012 Olympic lake.

Meanwhile, Monmouth RC is gearing up for two adult Learn To Row courses next month.

The course is typically six two-hour lessons spread over two weeks with the option for a second follow on course.
