The 'Walkers are Welcome UK Network' is a nationwide initiative launched in 2007 to encourage towns and villages to be 'welcoming to walkers'.
In Monmouth we can enjoy the benefit of exercise while taking in marvellous scenery and historic sites, we have a broad mixture of footpaths and bridleways with only a short section on roads.
Monmouth Walkers are Welcome is a group of local volunteers who all enjoy walking and decided to put Monmouth well and truly on the walking map. Monmouth became a 'Walkers are Welcome' town in October 2012.
The group has since produced information leaflets, with maps, on five circular walks.
These walking leaflets are available at Monmouth Museum, the Shire Hall and Stephen's Bookshop for only 50p each.
Two of the walks are centred on the Shire Hall. The first is 'The Kymin Suckstone Walk', sponsored by Prego. The second is 'The Buckholt Wood Walk', sponsored by The Coach House.
The other three walks are centred on Monnow Bridge. The first is 'The Wonastow Walk', sponsored by Total Look (Hairdresser). The second is 'The Penallt-Redbrook-Kymin Walk', sponsored by The Robin Hood Inn, and the third is 'The King's Wood Walk', sponsored by Monmouth & District Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
The next walk is 'The Wonastow Walk' on Saturday 8th February, leaving Monnow Bridge at 10am. Email [email protected]">[email protected]
