Ross started well and were soon one up thanks to a well taken goal by Phil Evans, but it wasn't long before Pembroke exploited the new tactical Ross formation of 3-2-3-2 as they were left light at the back and Pembroke scored two fairly easy goals.
But Ross picked themselves up before half time and levelled the score with a goal by Sam Warner.
A couple of good saves by new Ross keeper Lawrence Raasch meant honors were even at half time.
The second half started with some good end to end play by both teams, captain Tom Walton eventually broke the dead lock to make it 3-2.
The Ross defence of Dan Collins, Richard Jennison, Dave Skyrme, then came under considerable pressure as Pembroke pushed for the equaliser, which eventually came with about five minutes to go.
In the last minute, Ross were unlucky not to take all the points when the umpire deemed the ball not to have crossed the goal line, even though the Ross forwards had other ideas.
All in all a very entertaining match, with the team looking forward to an away game against Gloucester next week.
