Forest Of Dean parkrunner Martin Heath from Mitcheldean competed in the Ironman UK challenge in Bolton on Sunday 22nd July.
Martin completed the event in a total time of 16 hours, 48 minutes and 13 seconds, an amazing time.
He did his 2.4 mile swim in 1.50.32 followed by a 112-mile bike ride in 8.18.32 and finally ran a full marathon of 26.2 miles in 6.15.29.
What makes this all the more special is that Martin only had his epiphany moment late last year after watching a disabled athlete who took part in a similar event.
He was so humbled by the commitment of this man he decided to take up the challenge himself. Martin spent most of the year cycling to work in Gloucester as well as fitting in training for swimming and running, as part of which parkrun was one of his sessions.
