Clydach Wasps 4 Monmouth Town 6
MONMOUTH made the short journey to Clydach and came away with all three points in an entertaining 10-goal thriller.
The Kingfishers looking to build on their 4-2 win at Cwmbran were without the unwell Craig Lewis and Nick Harrhy, with Lewis Lloyd and Dan Macdonald coming back into the squad.
Monmouth started well but found themselves 2-0 down inside 15 mins after poor defending from set pieces.
But the Kingfishers have become resilient and came to life after 20 minutes, good work from James Greaney on the left finding Macdonald who was brought down in the box.
Josh Maxsimovic made no mistake from the spot to get the visitors back into the game.
And it wasn’t long before a raking ball from Rob Laurie set Maxsimovic free before the on-rushing keeper brought the in-form striker down in the box for another penalty.
Picking himself up, he made no mistake from the spot again for 2-2.
But in a bizarre game of twists and turns it wasn't long before Clydach took the lead again, as more poor defending cost the visitors.
It was 3-2 at the break and Clydach were good value for their lead.
Firm words from Jack Alderdice and Mark Morris at half-time spurred the Kingfishers into life again though.
And superior fitness and quality substitutions soon took their toll on a tiring Clydach.
Finn Thorp helped himself to an equaliser before a trademark Luke Cleaves long throw was guided over the stricken keeper by Laurie.
The introduction of Oscar Elias, Jacob Perrella and Matt Jones caused the hosts more problems.
Elias got in on the act to make it 5-3 before Jack Meredith and returning veteran Rhodri Lewis were sent on to shore things up.
There was still time for another goal for either side, Macdonald helping himself to a long range effort for the visitors.
Meanwhile, Monmouth 2nds beat East Gwent One second-placed Sudbrook CC 3-2 at home on Saturday, an injury time penalty winner by Tommy Chubb following a Sam Williams brace that lifts the hosts to third.
But near neighbours Rockfield Rovers dropped to bottom despite a battling 4-2 loss at leaders Underwood, Andy Fleming with both consolations.
EG2 leaders Chepstow Town 3rds walloped Underwood 2nds 8-1, while Tintern Abbey hit hosts Sudbrook CC 2nds for six without reply, Jack Coleman with a brace and the other goals from Rich Morgans, George Gibbard, Evan Fisher and Matt Dickens.
Chepstow's Thornwell R&W lost out 2-1 at home to Ponthir in Gwent Premier 2, but Usk Town 2nds won by the same score at home to Panteg 2nds in Gwent Central 2.
But Redbrook Rovers lost 2-1 at high-flying Ross Juniors in North Gloucestershire 1, Zak Morgan with the visitors' goal.
