Goodrich CC Winter Sleighers were again in action on Sunday (17th February) in the Herefordshire Premier Indoor League, managing to hold on to third spot despite defeat in their second contest of the evening.
This was in many ways thanks to a demolition of Brockhampton CC in their first game.
Captain Sam Griffiths won the toss and inserted the Birmingham League side who were soon reeling with the skipper (2-12 from three overs) the main architect of the chaos.
Jake Jarrett led the way in the field with some superb reflex stops to limit the Brock batsmen who were bowled out for 112.
In reply, the Sleighers looked settled with James O'Brien looking effortless with a match-winning 40 not out.
He was ably supported by Dave Skyrme (34 not out) as the Sleighers cruised home with three overs to spare.
The manor of this victory may well have resulted in the complacency that marred their second encounter of the evening against Brampton Bryan.
Griffiths again won the toss and inserted the opponents who, as Goodrich had done against Brockhampton, took assured singles at every opportunity.
Despite a wicket apiece for Sam Griffiths, O'Brien and Jarrett, three of the Brampton batsmen retired as they amassed a formidable target of 164.
In reply the Sleighers were never at the races with James and Joe Griffiths both making it into double figures before succumbing to some hostile bowling.
The Sleighers lost wickets regularly with Sam Griffiths (43) the last man out as Goodrich were dismissed for 122 in the penultimate over.
Goodrich return to the John Kyrle Sports Hall (every Tuesday evening 7.30pm) to work on their concentration for their next games on the 3rd March.
New players of all ages and abilities are welcome to join.
