MONMOUTH Town FC slipped to a 3-1 loss at high-flying Gwent Premier side Lliswerry, but will finally return to home comforts after the end of the cricket season against RTB Ebbw Vale this Wednesday (September 4).

The hosts took the lead 11 minutes in and doubled it on 56 minutes before sub Jack Meredith gave the Kingfishers hope four minutes later, set up by Mitchell Palmer.

It was all to play for in the final moments, but Lliswerry had the final word scoring a third two minutes into stoppage time.

Meanwhile, Town have learnt their opponents after battling through to the first round proper of the Welsh Cup, which is a tough trip on Saturday, September 21, to JD Cymru South Newport City, who are two divisions higher.

Chepstow Town, who will host Gwent Premier Pill in the Welsh Cup, won another cup clash at home to county rivals Abergavenny Town on Saturday, the sides drawing 2-2 at Larkfield Road in the Ardal South Cup before the Jockeys saddled up to win 5-4 in the shoot out.

The Pennies actually led 2-0 after 32 minutes thanks to goals from Mason Keepin-Davies and Jack Sage, before Deon Smith pulled one back right on the stroke of half-time.

And it was all-square just seven minutes into the second half thanks to a goal from Sonny Lewis, which is how it remained.

Chepstow's Lewis, Ryan Wheeler, Christian O'Donnell, Ash Palmer and Matty Board were then on target in the shoot out, with keeper Danny Moore making two great saves to put them through.

Caldicot Town also went through 3-1 at home to fellow Monmouthshire outfit Goytre.

But Chepstow's 2nds lost out 4-1 away to Abercarn 2nds in the FAW South East Reserves League, Bailey Hobbs with the late consolation, while Caldi's 2nds lost by the same margin at Croesyceiliog.

Usk Town were walloped 7-1 at home to Crickhowell in Gwent Premier 2, leaking four goals in the last 15 minutes after Jordan Loydall had pulled it back to 3-1.

But in the same competition, Chepstow's Thornwell R&W high-fived it with a 5-0 home win over Oak, Jamie Guscott with two and Alfie Sessford one, plus two own goals.

Elsewhere, Chepstow Town 3rds missed out 4-1 away to Undy 3rds on opening day in East Gwent One, while Caldicot Castle repelled Caldicot Town 3rds by the same score.

Monmouth's Rockfield Rovers were in seventh heaven at home to Caldicot Castle 2nds in EG2, winning 7-0 thanks to hat-tricks from Tommy Tynan and Ben Williams and a goal from Max Goodridge.

But Tintern were 4-0 losers at Severn Tunnel in the same tier, while Underwood beat visitors Portskewett & Sudbrook 6-2.

Redbrook Rovers opened their North Gloucestershire One campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Sling, while the 2nds just missed out 3-2 away to Lydney B in NG2.

Usk Town host Cwmcarn Athletic on Wednesday night, while Chepstow 2nds travel to Goytre on Friday (September 6).
