DAVE Teague smashed 93 as Monmouth CC 1st XI ended their league season on a high with a five-wicket win at home to St Fagans 3rds, placing them third in South East Wales Seven.
The visitors got off to a solid start reaching the 100 mark in the 16th over with only two wickets down.
But Teague then caught and bowled dangerman Richard Jones for 59 (102-3) before bowling the next man for a duck four balls later (102-4).
That put the brakes on the St Fagans run charge, with the visitors limited to 186-9 off 40 overs, instead of the 250 they had threatened.
Teague took two wickets for 16 runs off eight overs, Ben Pilot 2-23-8, Adam Roberts 2-35-8, Eddie Atkinson 2-39-7 and Peter Keay 1-33-6.
Jake Teague and Will Hickmott also took two catches apiece and Osian Jones one.
In reply, opener Teague was on fire, cracking 19 fours in his 94-ball knock before holing out just short of his ton with the winning line in sight (174-4).
Gareth Jones also scored 31 in a 112-run second wicket partnership, while Ben Lander added 16 as the hosts reached 187-5 with seven overs to spare.
The 2nds also signed off in style with an eight-wicket win away to Ponthir 3rds, leaving them fourth in SEW 12E.
St Fagans' top order made a solid start, opener Alan Burkitt firing 53, backed by Rajith Nainapadathu Kochukutty with 40, Conor Jones 15, Ben Scott 14, and Blessen Panavila Sam 13 as they passed the 140-mark in good order.
But the departure of the top five batsmen, with William Wilton, Aled Jones, Sam Brennan, Kit Skailes and Tony Brennan taking a wicket each, then saw Skailes destroy the rest of the battling line up, securing three ducks and the eighth man for two to bag a five-wicket haul for 29 runs off 6.4 overs.
Neil Saunders also weighed in with a wicket as Ponthir were all out for 165 in 39.4 overs, the last six batsmen contributing just nine runs with the bat.
In reply, the visitors eased to 166-2 in 35.4 overs, opener Andrew Dobbie firing 43, backed by Tom Willgoss with 35 not out, Matthew Williams 31 and Wilton an unbeaten 16.
The 3rds missed out though after being set a giant 286-5 off 40 overs by visitors Blaina 2nds.
Opener Lee Davies fired 126 and third man Owain Evans an unbeaten 97 in a 200-run plus stand, while the hosts' Joe Walton took two wickets and Tom Russell and Jack Mallen one apiece.
In reply Walton fired 25, Paul Mallen 27 and Barry Jones 42, but no one else reached double figures, just nine coming off the bat from the last six, leaving them eighth out of 12 in SEW 13E.
Elsewhere, Penallt & Redbrook signed off with a six-wicket victory and third place in Cheltenham/ Gloucester/ Forest 1 West at home to Newent Lions.
The visitors were restricted to 144-9 off 40 overs, with Geoff Eaves, Vipin Sathy, Ross Williams and Rajesh SR all taking wicket braces.
And 145-4 was reached with 7.3 overs to spare, Guy Adams firing 39 not out, backed by Cameron Lee with 28 and Graham Emerson with 26.
