MONMOUTH Cricket Club’s winter training programme for senior players is now under way.

A 12-week indoor programme, created by the club’s new Head of Player Development, Gareth Jones, began for male and female members on Sunday (January 8), running from 10am to 12.30pm.

The sessions are taking place in the Sports Hall at Monmouth Comprehensive School.

“This winter, we will have a new 12-week training programme divided between nets and a structured training pathway to develop skills for the new season,” explained Jones, a level 2 coach, who is also the 1st team captain.

“We will work on the fundamentals of cricket so that we can really drive the club forward on and off the field.”

He added: “There will be something for everyone, whether you are already a skilled player, a relative beginner, or a junior making first steps into senior cricket.

“The idea is that anyone who is old enough to play senior cricket can attend the first hour, which is skills-based.”

Monmouth Cricket Club, sponsored by Bürkert Fluid Control Systems, have just concluded their indoor winter softball league, which proved a big hit and ran for three months.

The cost of each indoor session is just £5 per week and, for more details on Monmouth CC, contact chairman Dave Walters by emailing [email protected]
