A RECORD-breaking Usk woman has revealed her success secret- her training partner Jack.

Angela Jones, who’s nearly 50, is an outdoor fitness trainer who balances trail running, kayaking, river swimming and mountain biking - while also teaching swimming at Monmouth Boys School.

During her outdoor activities, Angela is joined by a loyal training partner- five year old Jack. Jack river swims most days, up to one-and-a-half miles by her side and travels everywhere to her competitions.

“He’s a rescue dog but is an amazing athlete now and always goes on the podium with me,” she said.

“He recently ran Snowdon and Ben Nevis and swam Loch Lomond and many other lakes and lochs on an 18-day tour of Britain from the Scilly Isles to the Hebredies.

“Jack joins me in my job of outdoor fitness and my clients love him. Our passion is open water swimming and trail running.”

Since the age of 38, Angela has represented Wales in five world championships at senior level and was the Welsh triathlon Grand Prix winner. In the last six months she has over 20 wins, including the Monmouth aquathlon, while setting a new record for the Hebredies half marathon and achieved fourth in the world mountain running category.

“Every race I have done in the last year has been a personal best time which proves that age is no barrier.

“I even cut 10 minutes off my personal best when I was running the Big Cheese 15 mile race recently,” she added.

“I want to show that age isn’t a barrier when it comes to fitness.”
