We don’t like the ‘hideous’ signs

We completely agree with the views expressed in the letter from a concerned resident of Trellech in last week’s Monmouthshire Beacon about the over large and unsightly village name road signs that have been imposed on local villages.

It is hard to understand that in an A.O.N.B these hidous signs were ever considered suitable.

We have yet to meet any local residents or visitors to the area who like them or consider them attractive.

We would like M.C.C to answer these questions.

1. How much tax payer’s money was spent on these eyesores?

2. Who was responsible for commissioning the design?

3. Who was responsible for having them installed?

4. Would the money not have been more appropriately spent on repairing local roads some of which are in a very bad state?

5. Should a bit more effort have been made to consult local people before installing these signs.

6. If a survey of local opinion were undertaken MCC would find that the majority of local people find these signs unacceptable and would appreciate their removal.

'Spend the money on pothole repairs'

I have just read this week’s Monmouth Beacon and totally agree with the letter in respect of the lurid village unsightly signs that have been foisted upon unknowing residents.

They are disgusting eyesores and probably cost a large amount of money that could have been better spent on repairing the potholes in the roads of the county.

Signs are a ‘blot on the landscape’

Can I please add my voice to that of the "concerned gentleman from Trellech “ with regard to the horrific signs which have sprung up around our local villages.

They are a blot on the landscape have nothing positive to say that the old signs did not and will have been very expensive to produce and erect. What were the Council thinking of, I thought they were trying to save our money.
