Monmouth Young Rugby Under 7s and Under 8s travelled to Cardiff on Saturday 1st June for a fantastic opportunity to play a tag rugby tournament at Leckwith Stadium, which formed part of Judgement Day 2024.
With only 10 teams from each age group from the Dragons region being able to attend, both the Under 7s and Under 8s were extremely lucky and very excited to be involved in the event. Teams from each of the four regions were represented, Dragons, Cardiff Rugby, Scarlets and Ospreys and there was some fantastic rugby on display. The weather was also kind, so players, parents and coaches alike enjoyed a great day out!
It was also a very special day for the Under 8s as it marked the end of their tag rugby journey.
From September, the team will move over to playing contact rugby. All players were awarded with participation medals, and these were presented by current regional rugby players including the Dragons very own Elliott Dee. The day did not end there, following the tournament the teams headed across to Cardiff City Stadium to watch the professional players, first up were Scarlets v Dragons and then Cardiff v Ospreys. Stuart Paterson, Chairman of Monmouth RFC Young Rugby commented “Our Under 7s and Under 8s thoroughly enjoyed their day in Cardiff, and we are extremely proud of all players for representing our club.
“It was a great opportunity for our younger players to experience playing in a large stadium whilst playing teams from other regions”. Both age groups are recruiting for next season, if you have a child who is moving into Year 3 or Year 4 in September and they would like to give rugby a try, email: [email protected].
Both teams will be recruiting for next season and will be Under 8 (tag-rugby) and Under 9 (contact).
For any new recruits in the Under 9 there will be a minimum number of contact training sessions they will be required to attend before playing games.
