A thunderous new imagining of Arthur Miller’s classic play The Crucible comes to the big screen of The Blake Theatre tonight, Thursday January 26.
Starring Erin Doherty (The Crown) and Brendan Cowell (Yerma) and with contemporary new staging, designed by Tony Award-winner Es Devlin, The Crucible has been captured live from the Olivier stage at the National Theatre and will be on screen at The Blake Theatre in Monmouth.
Based on the Salem witch hunts of the 1690’s, Miller wrote the play as an allegory for McCarthyism, when the United States government persecuted people accused of being communists.
Raised to be seen but not heard, a group of young women in Salem suddenly find their words have an almighty power.
As a climate of fear, vendetta and accusation spreads through the community, no one is safe from trial.
The Crucible, described by The Sunday Times as “a five-star scorcher” begins at 7pm on Thursday January 26.
Tickets can be obtained from theblaketheatre.org or The Blake Theatre Box office on 01600 719401.
