Community groups in Monmouth have pulled out all the stops to ensure that there are warm and welcoming spaces available every day of the week throughout the winter period.

Providing a space to meet other people, enjoy a meal or simply to read the newspapers, these are aimed at anyone who might need a break from the winter chill during the day.

Organisations opening their doors for a warm welcome include the Monmouth Hub (library) on Whitecross Street, Ty Price community hall on Drybridge Street, Bridges Community Centre, Wyesham Christian Fellowship on Wyesham Avenue, Monmouth Methodist Church on St. James Street and Monmouth Baptist Church on Monk Street.

David Evans, chair of the Monmouth Town Council people and places committee said: “The sheer number of volunteers and groups coming together to help out their friends and neighbours this winter really shows the depth of community spirit we have here in Monmouth”.

It’s expected that some visitors to the warm spaces may be anxious about heating costs in their own homes, but they’re open to anybody visiting for any reason, including meeting other people, accessing the internet and services at the hub or even taking up a new activity at Bridges.

Some of the venues are able to provide a hot drink or even a meal on some days free of charge or in return for a donation from those who feel able to contribute.

Residents who may struggle with transport to get out and about are encouraged to register with the Bridges Community Car Scheme who may be able to help. Contact 01600 228787 to enquire.
