OVER the weekend St Briavels Castle, an ancient hunting lodge of King John, hosted a second world war event in their grounds.

Visitors were treated to informative talks about the culture of the era and the war itself from the point of view of the German soldiers, the Lovat Scouts, (a Highland Battalion who were sent to Canada in December 1943 for specialist ski and mountain training) and the Home Guard.

Children were delighted to be able to handle the (replica) guns and explore authentic Second World War tents and kit.

They also had the chance to complete an assault course and have a go at bomb disposal and traditional crafts.
