A TEAM of eight fundraisers from the Usk area have completed the National Three Peaks challenge and raised over £3,500 for the Velindre Cancer Centre. The task, which was completed in a time of 22 hours and 55 minutes, was in memory of Graham Barrett, who lost his fight to lung cancer aged 50 earlier this year. Velindre helped Graham through his treatment and specialise in supporting research into lung cancer. The first peak climbed was Ben Nevis (1344m), before travelling to Scaffel Pike (978m) which was summited in darkness in the early hours of the morning, and finally completing Snowdon (1085m) in heavy wind and rain.
The team has been overwhelmed by the response to the challenge, and thank everybody who has already donated with such generosity and provided support. To donate, and for more information on the challenge, visit the fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/uskvs3peaks
