Four pupils at Monmouth School for Girls impressed in a Chemistry competition at Cardiff University.
Joana Anjos, 16, Odera Chibuzor, 14, Sophie Bailey, 14, and Anna Swartz, 14, worked together brilliantly as a team to finish third overall in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Top of the Bench competition.
The annual Top of the Bench competition, which has been running for more than 20 years, aims to excite children about chemistry and encourage them to consider further education and careers in the field.
The Monmouth pupils were one of the few schools that managed to grow all four different types of crystal prior to the event - and secured the joint highest score for their efforts.
The girls demonstrated their outstanding Chemistry knowledge and were the only group to know the boiling point of ethanol.
Joana, Odera, Sophie and Anna clinched third place out of nine schools involved in the regional heat, and should be very proud of their performances.
