SIR,

May I through your newspaper express my sincere thanks to those people who assisted with the Mayor's Spectacular.

First of all the small committee who gave so much of their time and expertise.

Secondly to those who took part in the show, both young and slightly older.

To those shops and business friends and family who donated the prizes for the draw and those who made personal donations.

Also to teachers and organisers who tutored the participants to such a high standard.

Not forgetting those who compered the show; managed the stage, sound and lighting; manned the bar; helped front of house and drew the prize draw.

I also give my deepest thanks to the Nelson Museum and Posies for selling the tickets and to Geoff Webb for painting the sign.

Also to Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls for the use of the hall.

It is envisaged that the event will have raised more than £2,100 for my three charities: The Royal British Legion, St David's Foundation, and Monmouth Community Under 5s.

It is my humble opinion, in these times of financial unrest, those less fortunate souls need our support now more than ever. Also our brave service personnel who give their lives so that we may live in peace.

May I thank you one and all in assisting me to help those in greater need than ourselves.

Cllr Gerry Bright

(Mayor of Monmouth)
