WHEN a woman slims down numerous dress sizes from being a large plus size, she is left with a wardrobe of clothes that no longer fit.

Hazel Williams was in this very situation and over time she lost five stone in just less than 10 months. Hazel went from a size 20/22 to a size 12/14 after attending Slimming World sessions in Monmouth.

And as part of a regional initiative by the those attending the slimming sessions at the Bridges Centre in Monmouth, members decided to donate their clothes, shoes, and accessories that no longer fit to the Cancer Research UK shop in the town.

Under the banner ‘The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw’, the Monmouth Slimming World groups, collected 12 bags, worth around £300 for Cancer Research UK.

Slimming World consultant Debra Maloney, who runs the Monmouth groups, says she’s proud of how her members came together to support the charity as well as celebrate how far they’ve come on their own weight loss journeys.

She said: “Every week I’m inspired by my members and their dedication and determination to achieve their weight loss goals. They’re just as enthusiastic when it comes to getting involved in various events.

“I myself lost three stone 11lbs around 13 years ago and I’ve managed to keep it off all that time. I now have the pleasure of helping others achieve their weight loss dreams and keeping it off for life too.”

“Being overweight doesn’t necessarily mean that a person will develop cancer, but we know that losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight can prevent a number of health conditions, including some types of cancer.”

Over the years, Slimming World nationally has raised more than £20 million for Cancer Research UK through a variety of campaigns including The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw and supporting the charity’s Race for Life event series.

⚫ Slimming World sessions in Monmouth take place on Tuesday evenings at Bridges Centre in Drybridge, in the Agincourt Room at 5.30pm and at 7pm.
