THE director of a Monmouth company has hit out against “untrue” rumours that he says have caused upset among his tenants.
Robert Beynon, director of Singleton Court, based on the Wonastow Road Industrial Estate, told the Beacon yesterday that the circulating rumours about the future of the site are untrue and have left tenants “very upset”.
Singleton Court applied for a Corporate Voluntary Arrangement in 2014, an arrangement that allows a company to pay back creditors while continuing trading. This arrangement was terminated earlier this year, and the site is now for sale.
Rumours have circulated around the town with suggestions that the site would be bought by a number of local businesses. There were even rumours that the site could be knocked down to make space for other developments. However Mr Beynon denied this was a possibility.
There is no truth in them [the rumours] at all”, he said.
He also confirmed “categorically” that adjacent business Mandarin Stone are not buying the site.
“There is absolutely no way people can knock it down,”
“There are people here who have five-year leases here, you can’t just end that.
“It is very, very frustrated that people spreading rumours don’t see the damage they are causing.
“Nobody is going to spend that sort of money and then knock the whole place down.”
Mr Beynon met with tenants earlier this week (25th July) in a move to put an end to the rumours, but says that he has already had one tenant hand their notice in.
He earlier stated that the business site had been marketed to various companies, including a national supermarket and a development company.
“My intention is to look after the tenants,” he added.
“I challenge anybody who spreads these untrue rumours to come and talk about them to me.”
