A SCULPTOR is calling on residents to nominate individuals who have made a positive impact within the Forest of Dean for a new series of life-size steel sculptures.
The project, led by Coleford artist Gabriel Parfitt, aims to celebrate the community by creating realistic, life-like portraits of local people.
Known for his distinctive steel sculptures, Mr Parfitt is inviting nominations for individuals who deserve to be honoured for their contributions to the area.
The selected individuals will be asked to participate in a photo shoot and a brief interview to provide Mr Parfitt with the inspiration and details needed to capture their essence in steel.
The sculptures will eventually be exhibited locally, creating an opportunity for the Forest’s residents to see their community members immortalised in art.
Mr Parfitt hopes the series will not only highlight the unique personalities of those who shape the region but also offer an inspiring representation of the Forest’s diverse population.
"I'm excited to create something that celebrates the real people of the Forest of Dean," said the artist "This is a chance for us to highlight the positive impact individuals have had on their communities and to preserve that impact for future generations."
Mr Parfitt is a sculptor and photographer based in the Forest. His work explores space and form through steel rod and found metal, creating dynamic sculptures that utilise both negative space and the almost limitless possibilities of the material.
He draws inspiration from nature, the human figure, and everyday objects, often abstracting them to tell subtle, compelling narratives.
All work he produces are for sale, and commissions are welcome. His sculptures are suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings, with plinths available upon request.
Residents who know someone deserving of recognition can find more information on how to submit a nomination by visiting his website at www.gabrielparfitt.co.uk.
