Monmouth Chamber of Commerce recently held their first physical AGM in three years.

The meeting in the Rugby Club was well attended and the general business was followed by agreement of minutes and reports of the past twelve months’ activities and a change to the constitution.

Mark Lindley wanted to record that the profile of the Chamber has increased enormously over the last few years, with a heightened engagement with the whole community of Monmouth.

Winning the regional round of Enterprise Nation’s ‘Top Towns’ (beating off Swansea and Newport) was indicative of that success.

He added that drive and support is needed to maintain that, so a few others need to step up to give occasional assistance to the Committee and for all members to encourage more involvement.

The secretary stated that the chair had been passionately committed to marketing Monmouth and protecting it from LGA planning proposals that could have a disastrous effect on the town if not correctly implemented.

He called on the meeting to show their gratitude in the customary fashion. David Cummings (past chair) has volunteered to assume the post of treasurer but emphasised that he only wished to be a ‘book-keeper’ and have no influence on policymaking.

The committee officers – Sherren McCabe-Finlayson (chair), David Evans (secretary), and Mark Lindley were prepared to stand for re-election. They were proposed en bloc and unanimously returned.

The Chamber warmly welcomed Cllr David Evans, Town Council representative who was present at the meeting. An informal networking session took place, accompanied by refreshments, following closure of the meeting.
