Friends and family gathered at Bridges Community Centre, Monmouth to celebrate the life of the late Beryl Clayton on March 6.
Beryl lived in the local area and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, many of whom went to the celebration.
Heather Davies, Beryl’s daughter said: “she was known in the community and there weren't many people who didn’t know her.”
As well as being a mother, she also had grandchildren who also attended the celebration of her long life.
The event was organised by Beryl’s family who asked the group: “dancetime4all” if they could organise something to celebrate her life as she was a keen member of the group.
Beryl would’ve been 101 years old in September and had previously received her telegram from the King when turned 100 the previous year
Heather added: “We wanted to have a memorial for Mum so the friends that she made from different communities could come together and celebrate her life.”
Beryl made many friends from different local groups and organisations who along along with staff from the many groups she attended were more than happy to share her memories of her.
A member of staff from Monnow Vale said: “Beryl was an absolute delight, her face used to light up when she saw us and she loved to see all her friends.”
Her daughter said that her mother enjoyed different activities like bingo, dance, day trips or even just walking up the high street to explore.
The people she met from those communities gathered to share the memories which she made in her life and celebrate what she would’ve loved.
Guests at the celebration enjoyed a buffet and a beautiful cake made by a friend of the family and many of her friends took to the floor and danced in her memory.
