Ready Steady Win's second bursary presentations for 2007 were held during the recent Annual Charity Golf Day sponsored by The Leadership Trust and PGL Action and Adventure. Youngsters had to make short presentations to the audience before the awards were made for the 2007 Sportsperson of the Year. Fifteen bursaries, all with a 2012 goal, were awarded across a variety of sporting disciplines. The bursaries contribute towards costs of their travel, competition fees, coaching and equipment, and will assist the young talented sports men and women in further realizing their true potential. The joint winners of Ready Steady Win Sportsperson of the Year 2007 were Claire Spencer, 17, flat water kayak (Hereford Sixth Form College) and Sarah Waldron, 19, athletics (University of Birmingham). The June Ready Steady Winners from John Kyrle High School, Ross, were: Vanessa Brann, 14, athletics Cross country, track and field. County Champion Cross Country U15's 2006 and 2007, Hereford & Worcester Schools 1st Junior Girls and 2nd Seniors, Qualified for English Schools 2005, 2006 and 2007. Track and Field U15 County Champion in 800m, 1500m and javelin, silver medal in high jump and long jump, winning Mason Trophy 2005/2006. Road racing includes best Under 15 Girl of the Year 2006. Samantha Griffiths, 13, athletics (John Kyrle High School). Achievements include County Championships Gold in long jump, Silver in 100 and 200 metres. During 2007 Power of 10 regional positions held, first season meeting as member of Cheltenham Harriers Team Midland Women's First 100 metres, First long jump. Selected for 2012 development squad. Alex Robinson, 13, fencing (John Kyrle High School). Achievements include U17s Manchester Cadet International 35th place, British Cadet Championships 44th place. At Senior Open Grade 38th place in Shropshire Open, 59th Place at Hereford and Worcester Open. 9th place in the South West Senior Men's Foil with Gold for the Team and Gold medal winning team Gloucestershire Senior Men's Foil. Daniel Robinson, 17, fencing (John Kyrle High School). Achievements include former Ready Steady Win Sportsperson of the Year, ranked 2nd in UK for U20s junior foil, was ranked 13th in UK senior foil. Highest placed junior finishing 10th place in the British Senior Foil Championships, 13th in Essex Open, 2nd Leicester Open, 3rd Welsh Open. South West Senior Mens Foil 2nd place and Gold for the Team. Gloucestershire Senior Men's Foil Champion (2006 and 2007). Jennifer Probyn, 12, swimming (John Kyrle High School). Achievements include County Record holder for 200 metre breast stroke (10 year girls), 2006 County Championships 3 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronze; Club Championship achieved club records in 15 events, 2007 County Championships 4 silvers, 1 bronze and 3rd overall in 11 year old category.
