PUPILS at Overmonnow Primary School have created a vibrant work of art for Monnow Vale.

The children have been giving their time after school to take part in an art club presented by Superstars, a specialist company that offers creative activities for children.

The colourful mural is a culmination of the pupils work and is a welcome, colourful addition to the cafe at Monnow Vale Hospital.

Since February the young artists have been studying landscape painting and focused on several artists of that genre.

Overmonnow pupils visited the hospital last Friday (27th May) to see their works of art on display.

Sarah Delahoy, art specialist at Superstars, said: “I work in another school in the Forest of Dean where a school created a board for their local hospital so I thought why not create one for Monnow Vale?

“The children have been learning all about landscapes this term with a focus on folk art.

“The pupils have really enjoyed the experience.”

Hospital manager, Eve Parkinson, said: “The mural is amazing, it’s absolutely fabulous and it brings a different feel to the cafe.

“So many people have come in to have a look including staff and patients.

“It’s great that the school is such a part of the community and it feels like we’re part of an intergenerational link.”

Pupil Ella Davies, 10, said: “I think the art makes the cafe cheerful and it lightens the mood.”

Alice Clynch, 9, said: “It makes people see what art can do.”

The board and cabinet where the mural is stored has been paid for by the charity Friends of Monnow Vale Hospital.
