Local children have helped raise more than £300 for their school by thanking their mums with a special treat for Mothering Sunday.
Overmonnow Primary School‘s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association, (PTFA), created luxury £5 boxes which included a keyring, a selection of sweets, tea and a chocolate brownie, plus a homemade scone with clotted cream and jam.
The fruit scones were baked by local grandmother Margaret Thomas, while the brownies were supplied at a discount by Tasha’s Bakes and Cakes of Monmouth.
Boxes also included special Mother’s Day raffle tickets, with brilliant prizes generously donated by local businesses The Face Space, Handmade by Hunter, Celtic Manor, Canvas Photography, Belles Beauty, Bee you Bee Beautiful, Studio 7, Hair by Jones, Jewel Bug Designs and No Filter.
The children were able to personalise their boxes with drawings of their mums or carers.
“Children love treating their mums, so this was the perfect way to help them do that, and support the school too,” said PTFA member Claire Townsend, who managed the event.
“We were so pleased with the kind support given by local businesses.”
A total of £330 was raised, with all funds donated to the school for learning resources.
