Green Top Events (GTE) who have previously organised the Usk Jubilee Market near the Usk Rural Life Museum have notified Usk Town Council that after trialling the market for 12 months they have decided that the market is not viable in this location.

The council understands from GTE that another market organiser will be setting up a similar outdoor market at The Glascoed Pub, in Monkswood on the 1st Saturday of each month.

In its place, Usk Town Council (UTC) are looking to set up a Community Fridge and are looking for volunteers to help set this up.

Community Fridges are places that bring people together to reduce food waste. It is somewhere local people can share food, this includes surplus from supermarkets, local food businesses, producers, households and gardens. Fridges are run by community groups in shared spaces such as schools, community centres and shops, their main purpose is saving fresh food from going to waste. If you would like to help with this, please contact the office 01291 673011 or email [email protected] .

Usk Town Council are always open to new suggestions to utilise this space. Maybe you would like to see a specialist market here such as an Antique or Flea Market in this area? Please contact them if you would like to help or have experience of these.

UTC are also looking to trial a one-day Outdoor Market in Twyn Square in the Spring and Autumn along with the Christmas Market weekend in December.

The Usk Farmers Market continues at The Willows Garden Centre on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month and the Thursday Usk Country Market will return to The Grange after it’s winter break on the Thursday 16th March.

The council urge you to shop local as it’s better for the environment, you support local businesses and invest in your community creating a demand for local jobs.
