The team at Gibraltar Nursing Home in Monmouth was delighted to welcome Flumeri Films for an exciting filming project. Jessica Palmarozza, the Founder of Flumeri Films discovered the Monmouthshire care home online and recognised it as the perfect location for one of the scenes in their film ‘Cold Snap’.
‘Cold Snap’ premiered ‘in-competition’ as part of the Family Ties programme at BFI’s 68th London Film Festival in winter 2024. The film stars Scottish BAFTA winning actress Marli Siu and Tuyen Du, a short film about a mother and daughter dealing with terminal illness and loss, written and directed by Ellen Evans with BBC Film.
Throughout the filming process, the friendly crew members interacted with members of the team, explaining the storyline and making this experience memorable. Scenes also included team members, with Beth playing a receptionist, and Kyle, assisting an actor in a wheelchair. “I watched the filming from the Pillars Restaurant and seeing all the equipment set up in Gibraltar’s reception was surreal,” shared team member, Sally Lewis.
Home Manager, Verity Walmsley expressed, “I was super excited, I couldn’t believe it actually, it’s something totally different to our day to day. I love acting, and I studied drama at school. Anyone that knows me knows that I was always going to love this idea and wanted to do all I could to ensure Gibraltar was involved. Something that’s a bit of fun is needed at times, so this just brought a different feel for the day. I was certainly all for this and I’m so glad they chose two of the team members to be involved as extras also which I thought that was a nice touch”.
‘Cold Snap’ is next going to be screened in Berlin at the ‘British Shorts’ Film Festival at the end of January 2025, and will be available later this year.
