Councillor Gerry Bright has been voted in unanimously as the new Mayor of Monmouth. The appointment was made at Monmouth Town Council's AGM on Monday (9th May).

Standing down from the post, Cllr Jeana Hall paid tribute to the many people that had helped to make her year in office "a great priviledge and honour".

The new deputy mayor is Cllr Terry Christopher.

The Civic Service has been confirmed for Sunday 12th June with the Corps of Drums to lead the procession.

It was voted that all future council and committee meetings would be held in the council chambers. The town clerk will be moving back to the Shire Hall this week.

It was agreed to allow Monmouth Rowing Club use of the Town Field for an autumn event, but it was decided against offering the club 'first option' should a sale be proposed as the ground is being put into a trust for the forthcoming Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge.

The date of the next meeting is Monday 20th June.
