Dr Brinley Morgan, whose Raglan village ancestry goes back to the 17th Century, took the opportunity when Newland Rennie offered for sale the Lordships of the Manor of Raglan, Usk, Kilgoygan and the Mesne Manor of Gwernesney.
He seized the chance to buy the Raglan manorial title and two pieces of land for his wife, Dr Cheryl Lanyn Morgan, who for the past 20 years has worked tirelessly with Raglan school’s History Detectives and has written and co-written a number of books on Raglan. She has also been involved in producing guide leaflets and historical trails.
Sadly, Cheryl is now suffering from early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease and is giving up the running of the History Detectives and after-school club as well as slowing down her management of the Raglan history websites.
“Her courage is such that she wants to draw attention to the issue of Dementia in our society and encourage and embolden others to draw attention to it, to enable all affected to live life as full as possible,” said
Brinley.
Through her endeavours, 20 significant houses in the village have QR plagues which tell something of their history. She was instrumental also in the provision of historical maps of the village on display and at the castle. She produced an historical guide map to St Cadoc’s churchyard as well as websites such as Raglanpedia and the Raglan Doomsday Site, which tell many interesting stories of the village and its surrounds.
“It was a gift of love,” he added.
